About Mitcham - Suburb Profile

Situated 20KM east of Melbourne CBD is the residential suburb of Mitcham. Originally an orchard area, it began to change into a suburb from the 1950's and is now fully settled.

Mitcham has an irregular shape and is surrounded by the suburbs of Donvale, Nunawading, Forest Hill, Donvale, Vermont and Ringwood. The main East/West link is Maroondah Highway which bisects the suburb and runs parallel with the railway. EastLink now offers the most efficient north/south and city connection. Mitcham's population of over 14,000 live within a 6.8KM area.

The area is well served by public transport with regular train services to the city from railway stations at Heatherdale and Mitcham. Mitcham boasts four primary schools, a secondary college and the excellent Mitcham Private Hospital. The numerous reserves and parkland areas make Mitcham a pleasant residential suburb. Notable parks and reserves include walking tracks through the Yarran Dheran bushland and neighbouring Mullum Mullum park off Quarry Road (above the EastLink tunnels). Antonio Park and Halliday Parks children's playground also offer a much appreciated breathing space.
